Sanctuary Community Action is a non-profit organization founded in 1994 by the Association of Danville Area Ministers (ADAM) in response to the growing need for centralized and coordinated services in the community. Rooted in Christian values and committed to compassion, dignity, and neighborly care, we proudly serve the residents of Eastern Knox County, including the Danville and East Knox school districts. While we are faith-based, we operate independently of any government affiliation.
Our mission is to be a central hub of care, offering services that promote the health, well-being, and independence of individuals and families—particularly seniors, women, and children. We believe strong communities are built through accessible resources, compassionate outreach, and a deep understanding of local needs. That belief guides every program we offer.
Our Services Include:
Whether you are seeking support or looking for ways to serve others, Sanctuary Community Action is here as a resource, advocate, and partner in care.
Sanctuary Community Action (SCA) owns and maintains the building at 304 1/2 Market Street, which houses the Danville branch of Interchurch Social Services. While we provide the facility, Interchurch is a completely independent organization. Their programs and services are not operated, funded, or managed by SCA. Our role is simply to provide and maintain the space so they can serve the community.
The phone number for Interchurch is 740-599-5673.
We are governed by a dedicated 9-member Board of Trustees, elected by and from the community membership. They serve a three-year term, and the officers serve a two-year term. The Board includes the following officer roles:
Officers may also serve as trustees. Our Program Coordinator was appointed by the board of trustees in October 1995. The coordinator manages the day-to-day operations of the organization and works closely with each of our programs to ensure smooth, compassionate, and effective delivery of services.
Membership in Sanctuary Community Action is open to all individuals who reside in Eastern Knox County. There is no limit to the number of members, and we actively encourage participation from residents who are passionate about the community's well-being.

Your voice matters—whether you want to help shape the future of services in our area, offer ideas, or lend a helping hand.
We exist to bridge gaps in care and ensure that all residents—regardless of age or income—can access essential services with dignity and ease. From preventative health screenings and women’s wellness to senior support and community partnerships, our work reflects our deep commitment to the people of this region.
By working together, we build not only a stronger community, but a more hopeful future for everyone in it.
